Meet Issy and Kate Dalgairns

Growing Confidence Through Self Care

Kate Dalgairns is mum to 10 year old Issy, a kind, thoughtful and compassionate young girl with a love for self care and a mature outlook beyond her years. Together, they share an approach to skincare that focuses on healthy habits, confidence and embracing individuality. Kate believes in encouraging age appropriate self care while helping Issy understand that true beauty comes from kindness, self respect and feeling comfortable in your own skin.

Tell us a little about you and your daughter?

My daughter Issy is 10 years old and currently in Year 5 at school. She is a beautiful mix of empathy, humour and kindness, with a naturally caring nature that draws people to her.
She is always looking out for her friends, making sure everyone feels included and supported, which is something I admire so much about her. Issy has a wonderful sense of humour and brings so much joy and laughter to the people around her, while also showing a maturity beyond her years.
I often joke that she is “10 going on 20” because she can be incredibly wise and thoughtful for someone so young. She has a way of understanding people and situations that constantly surprises me.
Above all, she is a gorgeous soul inside and out, and I feel incredibly proud watching her grow into such a compassionate and confident young girl.

Have you noticed her becoming more interested in skincare or self care recently?

Absolutely. Issy has definitely become more interested in skincare and self care recently. She loves wandering through stores, looking at products, reading labels and learning about the ingredients in the skincare she’s interested in.
What I really love is that she’s already developing a healthy understanding of skincare for her age. She knows that strong active ingredients are a definite “no” for young skin and understands that keeping things gentle and simple is important.
It’s been lovely watching her take an interest in caring for herself in a safe and age appropriate way. She enjoys the ritual of it all, washing her face, applying moisturiser and using face oils, and I think it gives her a sense of independence and makes her feel a little more grown up.
For her, it’s less about trends and more about enjoying the self care aspect and taking pride in looking after herself.

How do you talk to her about confidence and appearance?

We talk a lot about how true confidence comes from within and isn’t based on appearance alone. I always remind Issy that the most important thing is how she feels about herself, not how she looks compared to anyone else.
We speak openly about the importance of feeling comfortable in your own skin and embracing what makes you unique. In a world where young girls are constantly exposed to images and trends, I think it’s important to reinforce that there is no “perfect” way to look and that comparing yourself to others can take away from your own confidence and individuality.
One thing we talk about often is how her differences are actually what make her special. Whether it’s her personality, her quirks, her sense of humour or the way she cares for others, those are the things that truly define her.
I want her to grow up knowing that confidence comes from being kind to yourself, valuing who you are and feeling happy and secure in your own skin.

What do you look for when choosing products for her?

When choosing skincare products for Issy, my biggest priority is making sure they are gentle, clean and completely age appropriate for young skin.
I avoid products with active ingredients because I don’t believe strong acids or harsh treatments are necessary for a 10 year old. Her skin is still young and delicate, so keeping things simple and nourishing is really important to me.
I look for products that focus on hydration, protection and maintaining a healthy skin barrier rather than trying to treat concerns that simply aren’t relevant at her age. Gentle cleansers, lightweight moisturisers and basic skincare essentials are more than enough.
I do think there’s value in introducing healthy skincare habits early on, as long as it’s approached in a balanced and age appropriate way. For Issy, it’s less about beauty trends and more about learning to care for herself, creating positive routines and understanding the importance of looking after her skin in a healthy and mindful way.

What’s one thing you hope she always believes about herself?

More than anything, I hope Issy always believes that she is enough exactly as she is.
I want her to know that her worth isn’t tied to how she looks, what other people think of her or how she compares to anyone else. I hope she always holds onto her kindness, empathy and confidence because those are the qualities that truly make her beautiful.
She has such a caring heart and a wonderful way of making people feel seen and supported, and I hope she never loses sight of how valuable that is.
Most of all, I want her to believe that being different is something to celebrate, not hide. The things that make her unique are the things that will help her shine throughout her life.
If she can grow up feeling comfortable in her own skin, proud of who she is and confident enough to be unapologetically herself, then I’ll feel like I’ve done my job as her mum.

What do you like about Glow&Go for the next generation?

What I love about Glow&Go for the next generation is that it feels focused on healthy, age appropriate skincare rather than encouraging young girls to grow up too quickly.
It promotes the idea that skincare can be about self care, confidence and creating positive habits instead of perfection or unrealistic beauty standards. I think that’s such an important message for young girls today.
I appreciate that the focus is on nurturing healthy routines and teaching children to care for themselves in a positive and balanced way. It helps create a healthy relationship with skincare from the beginning, one that is rooted in wellbeing, confidence and self respect rather than appearance alone.
